Switch & Socket Repair in Surat

Sockets that no longer hold a plug, switches that spark or buzz, and old boards swapped for clean modular plates.

Switches and sockets take more physical wear than any other part of an installation. Plugs go in and out thousands of times, screws loosen, contacts burn and cheap fittings crack. Most of the faults we see are small, quick and cheap to fix — and most of them get worse if they are left.

Why a dead socket is rarely just the socket

When a plug point stops working, the fitting itself is only one of the possibilities. Just as often the fault is a loose neutral in the back box, a failed connection at the previous point on the ring, or a break further back in the run.

We test rather than swap. That means checking whether voltage is reaching the box at all, whether the earth is continuous, and whether the neighbouring points on the same circuit behave normally. It takes a few extra minutes and it stops you paying for a new socket that will be just as dead as the old one.

Upgrading to modular

Modular switchboards look better, but the real gain is practical: individual modules can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the plate, and the grid gives you room to add a socket or a USB module later.

When we change a board we take the opportunity to check what is behind it. Old back boxes are often shallow, crowded, and full of cable with hardened insulation. Deepening the box and re-terminating properly is what makes the new plate sit flush and last.

  • Matched plates across a room so nothing looks patched together
  • Deeper back boxes where the existing ones are too shallow
  • Sockets with switches and indicator on high-use points
  • USB and Type-C modules added where phones are actually charged
  • Proper earthing to every point, not just the new ones

Adding points instead of stacking extensions

A three-way extension plugged into another extension behind a TV unit is a common sight and a genuinely poor idea. Each connection is a resistance, each resistance is heat, and the whole stack usually sits on a circuit never designed for it.

Where we see this we suggest putting a proper point where it is needed. In most rooms it is a short spur from an existing circuit and it costs less than people expect.

Never run a high-load appliance such as a geyser, induction hob or portable heater from an extension lead. Those need a dedicated point on an appropriately rated circuit.

Warning signs

When it is time to book this service

  • Plug falls out or sits loose

Worn contacts no longer grip the pins. The resulting arcing generates heat inside the socket even when everything looks fine from outside.

  • Warm or discoloured faceplate

Brown staining around a pin hole or a plate that is warm to touch means a connection is running hot. Stop using that point until it is checked.

  • Switch buzzes or sparks

A crackle when you operate a switch, or a visible flash, is a worn contact. In a fan regulator it can also mean the regulator itself is failing.

Questions

Switches & Sockets questions we are asked most

One socket in my bedroom is dead but the others work. What is wrong?

Most often a loose neutral or line conductor in that point or the one feeding it. It is usually a quick fix once the fault is located, and it is worth doing promptly because a loose connection generates heat.

Can you change all switches in my flat to modular?

Yes. We survey the number and size of boards first, agree a plate range with you, and normally complete a 2BHK in a day.

My switch gives a small shock. Is that serious?

Yes, treat it as urgent. A tingle from a switch plate points to an earthing or insulation fault. Stop using it and call us the same day.

Do you supply the switches or should I buy them?

Either. Many customers pick a range they like and we install it; otherwise we bring good-quality standard fittings and you approve them before installation.
