Electrician working on a new installation during a home fit-out

Getting the electrical work right in a new home is mostly about decisions made before any cable is pulled. Where the switches go, how many points each room really needs, which circuits are separate, and where the board sits — these are cheap to change on a drawing and expensive to change once the plaster is on.

Planning before first fix

We walk the property with you and mark positions room by room. Where will the bed actually go — because that determines which side the switches and charging points belong on. Which wall will the TV be on. Is the kitchen layout final, because hob, chimney, microwave and water purifier all need points in specific places.

This session is the most valuable hour in the whole job. A point in the right place costs the same as a point in the wrong place; moving it later costs far more than both.

  • Bedroom: bedside points on both sides, two-way switching from door and bed
  • Living: TV wall points grouped and concealed, plus a spare for future use
  • Kitchen: separate points for hob, chimney, microwave, purifier and small appliances
  • Utility: dedicated washing machine point away from splash zones
  • Every room: at least one spare point per wall you expect to furnish

Coordinating with the other trades

New-build and fit-out work only runs smoothly when the electrical, plumbing, false-ceiling and carpentry teams are talking to each other. Conduit that clashes with a plumbing run, or a light cut-out that lands on a ceiling joist, costs everybody time.

We work to the interior drawings where there are any and coordinate directly with the other contractors on site. If there are no drawings, we mark our runs clearly so the mason and carpenter can see them.

Photograph every wall after first fix and before plastering. A phone full of those pictures is worth a great deal the first time somebody needs to drill into a wall.

Testing and handover

Before we hand a new installation over we test it properly: continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth continuity and RCCB operation on every circuit. A new installation that has not been tested is only assumed to be correct.

Handover includes a labelled board, the as-installed circuit list, and a walkthrough so you know which breaker does what before you need to know it in the dark.

Questions

New Home Wiring questions we are asked most

Do you work with interior designers and contractors?

Regularly. We work to interior drawings and coordinate on site with civil, plumbing, false-ceiling and carpentry teams.

How many points does a 2BHK need?

It depends entirely on how you live rather than on a standard number. We work it out with you room by room during the planning walkthrough — that conversation is part of the job, not an extra.

Can you take over a job someone else started?

Yes, though we will survey what is already installed first and tell you plainly what we can certify and what we would want to redo.

Do you provide a circuit list at handover?

Always. A labelled board and a written circuit list are part of every new installation we complete.
